188627 2003-11-02 06:16:00 to only reason you need acrobat reader is if you are trying to view .pdf files, otherwise, yes ditch it. ilikelinux (1418)
188628 2003-11-02 06:17:00 Adobe Acrobat reader reads files ending with the extension pdf (portable document format). It is a very common format and you will find most of your manuals for software on your computer will be in this format, as well as text files on the internet that can be downloaded.

Can you be a bit more specific with what problems you are having with it? Also what version of Adobe Acrobat reader do you have?

188631 2003-11-02 07:22:00 Hi albatross

You don't normally open up the program first, rather when you open the .pdf file, adobe acrobat will automatically open up for you and display the contents. If you are looking at websites you will sometimes see a message that you will need Adobe Acrobat reader in order to view that file.

For example take a look here (www.unitedtravel.co.nz) - you will see this message: Flyers are in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. If you then click on one of the View Flyer links, your Adobe program will open up and display the brochure. You can then choose to save this file to your hard drive for later viewing by selecting the Save option.
