188500 2003-11-01 20:49:00 Using OE6 Sp1 on W2K Pro. 56k dial-up. I occasionally like to dress up a private email with animated GIFs such as emoticons or something a little more elaborate.

In the last few days, I have noticed that with the exception of very simple images, they just won't send. The transmission will partially complete and then just hang and eventually time out. Receiving GIFs on POP3 is not a problem.

I'm not sure whether this is a problem with my puter or with Paradise although I suspect the latter because they seem to send alright when using Quik (my alternative ISP) That would be okay except that I receive a lot of list mail in which paradise is the registered addy and reconnecting to another ISP just to send a GIF to a grandkid is frustrating.

The other thought is, could Kerio have somehow have a bearing on this? I would disable Kerio and try again except that I am a little nervous about being online without an active firewall.

Any suggestions?

188501 2003-11-01 21:51:00 Disabling your firewall for 30 seconds while sending an email shouldn't be an issue, as long as you remember to enable it again.

But be sure that you're patched against the blaster virus before you try it :)

188502 2003-11-01 22:19:00 Okay, have tried with Kerio both set to it's lowest setting and completely disabled but no improvement. I can also connect with Clear but the result is the same as with Paradise. However, Quik sends them without a problem.

The other thing that occurred to me is, is there anything in the SMTP configuration that could produce this result (or more accurately, lack of result?)

188503 2003-11-03 19:43:00 I have the same problem Blue Driud.....its driving me crazy!
All was fine till a few days ago, now I cant send gifs or jpgs either.
Maybe it is Paradises problem, I've tried several things to correct this problem but nothing seems to work.
All other attachments send perfectly, but not animations or pics
A suggestion from a tech person was to try uninstalling Nortons (possibly it has corrupted the SMTP), reinstall and see if that helps
I havent tried it yet, being a 'newbie' I'm a little hesitant LOL.
Have tried deleting email accounts and re-doing them, no luck!

188504 2003-11-03 21:58:00 Since I don't have Norton installed, (I use Kerio firewall) I suspect that you're right about it being Paradise. The same thing happens with Clear net but not Quik. Since Clear and Paradise (I think) share the same bed,
it does seem to point to them.

188505 2003-11-04 07:54:00 Drop Clear or Paradise an email and ask them what's up - usually when I've emailed Clear.Net I've received a decent email reply by the end of the next day.

188506 2003-11-04 21:23:00 I have spoken to paradise this morning, the technician says its a fault with paradise modems suddenly not recognising some home pc modems.
So, jpgs etc, wont send, they are working on the problem and hope to solve it soon.
Meanwhile...cant send colourful emails! LOL
I guess we just have to wait til paradise fixes the problem.

188507 2003-11-05 09:36:00 Thanks for your efforts, Popeye. Tis been a busy few days in my world and hadn't got around to contacting them.

Our contacts will just have to put up with our new-found blandness!
