| 188423 | 2003-11-01 07:36:00 | Hi I have a screen (the big old 1s :D) and i was thinking was mhz of refersh rate is good? I like to play games and right now im at 60mhz and my eyes dont like it.. and no my moniter can NOT suport it will it kill my screen???? |

Or do you want to know if making it higher will screw up your monitor? I can tell you that if your monitor doesn't support the refresh rate you select, it'll pretty much display fuzzy. Also, apparently you should ideally use a minimum of 75Hz as a refresh rate, because it reduces eye sore. |

If so, then yes it will probably screw your screen. Usually though the OS will either not let you make it too high, or it will at least tell you that it could damage the screen. Mike. |

| 188428 | 2003-11-01 08:35:00 | What resolution are you trying to run it at? For most 14" 640x480 is at 70Hz, which isn't too bad. I ran an old (286 vintage) screen at 800x600@ 75Hz for a while. But I think it kills them eventually. |

| 188430 | 2003-11-01 10:03:00 | Well my fisrt question would be... what kind of monitor do you have, if you have the manual it will tell you what frequencies are supported, also what kind of graphics card do you have, and do you have the latest drivers. If your graphics card is recent and your driver's are up to date then I would say you may want to try and upgrade your monitors drivers, else just try setting you yougraphics card to the adapter default setting and work you way up from there, ig your screen goes fuzzy just leave it and windows will return it to the previous setting it was one. cheers chiefnz |

| 188431 | 2003-11-01 19:07:00 | Some people think the maximum refresh rate the video card and monitor will take is the thing to do. That isnt so. Anything above about 70/72 Hz will not be detectable by average eyes, 72/75 Hz is a good setting, higher rates are just stressing the monitor colour amplifier circuitry unecessarily and will marginally reduce monitor life. 60Hz is too low and causes eyestrain due to flicker, especially noticeable in ones peripheral vision. |
