188684 2003-11-05 01:38:00 Chill: That batch file shows how to do it. It might not work. :D I've looked at it (I think on the RH9 CD) and saw the arguments to the call of LOADLIN were wrong. But you can type the command correctly, and it works like a dream. I've used it in the past -- as far back as RH4.2 or so. It does want a real DOS. (DOS 7 would do ... maybe DOS8).

What is the make and model of the computer and the BIOS brand? Try starting up with the keyboard unplugged, or holding a key (any key) down until the BIOS complains. Sometimes that makes it give you a chance to get into the setup. You just plug the keyboard in and give it the key it wants. :D

188685 2003-11-05 02:04:00 Unless you're a clever cookie and set it to "Halt on no errors" like some people do... :-(

Does it not even boot from a Floppy before IDE0 by default? That's odd... usually they'll set it to look for at least one of the CD-ROM or Floppy first...?!

188688 2003-11-05 05:32:00 If its looking for a Floppy, then boot into doze and look for Rawrite on the CD's. If its not there then just ask and I'll hook you up with it.. It should be on google though (But I had troubles a while back finding it).

Make a Boot-Disk and begin install like that (Uses CD-Roms, but begins it from install).

Will need:
1x Floppy!

Cheers

Chill.

188689 2003-11-05 06:58:00 Hi Chill,

You can get rawrite32 (www.duskware.com) here. Not that you need it :) personally!

188690 2003-11-05 07:06:00 Howdy agent,

I use SuSE and quite like it. As with all pre-packaged distros there are nice points and not so nice points with it. :) One of the main reasons I like it is that it comes with all of the network security tools you could want ( well, almost all :D )

One major problem is that they don't have downloadable iso images. The only images you can get are the "live" ones that allow you to run it from cd.

Send me an email or something off-forum if you want SuSE...

188692 2003-11-05 21:12:00 "my external modem never worked"

Hmmm what brand/model was it? In my experience exteral modems work with any OSs. I have heard rumours that there is such thing as an external "winmodem" but not come across one as yet.
