188674 2003-11-03 00:00:00 Be careful with MDK 9.2 if its an LG drive also.. ;-)

Ive done many installs from 52x CD-ROM's and all have been sweet...
If you're that worried then make an ISO on your HDD first, or burn a backup copy of the CD's!

188675 2003-11-03 01:07:00 sigh. if i knew what brand my cd is. i have a suspicion it might be diamond data but i dunno.( there is a cover giving access to 1 button, eject) Megaman (344)
188676 2003-11-03 02:43:00 you can get linux of several NZ ftps(this means if ur on jetstart it wont affect ur bandwidth limit). I think it might be possible to get Debian and Gentoo off the jetstream games ftp (ftp://ftp2.jetstreamgames.co.nz/) but im not sure too confusing for me.

check out this site for a few more FTP's
www.linux.net.nz
(once again all NZ so wont affect jetstart bandwidth)

188677 2003-11-03 02:53:00 That's if your ISP differentiates between National and International...

I really do feel for those who are on 5 gigs all round :-(

188678 2003-11-03 03:07:00 i tried pressing F8 on startup and it lets me chose my OS (i only have 1 so its kind of a no brainer). it lets me go to advenced settings by pressing F8 again so i can go to safe mode etc. is it at all possible to run windows in one partition, load it up, and while its running install linux in the other partition? that would get rid of the need for a cd-rw and fiddling around in BIOS Megaman (344)

That method will not allow you to enter the BIOS. You will probably need to press the Delete key to do so.

No, that is not at all possible. If you wish to dual boot Windows XP with Linux you will have to either create another partition (requiring a partition manager, eg Partition Magic, which will cost you money if you do not already have it) or sacrifice one of your current partitions. Using one of your current partitions will mean losing the contents on that partition. If you are able to reinstall Windows XP you could repartition your hard drive more appropriately to accommodate both operating systems but once again it means losing the contents of each.

188681 2003-11-03 04:31:00 Some versions of Red Hat give a batch file on the CD which is started from DOS and starts th4e install that way. But it wouldn't shut XP down properly. :D You're better to boot from the CD (or make the two boot floppies from the CD).

There must be a way to get into the BIOS setup of your computer. F8 is unlikely to do that --- it's a "Windows key" and is seen after any chance oif getting into the BIOS is past.

188682 2003-11-03 04:51:00 Good point about the Boot Floppies.. They can be done in Doze too with Rawrite (On the RH8/9 CD's) and that'll make an Install Floppy for ya :-)

Most Distro's will let you do that.

Have you tried using that utility that's on the RH CD to begin an install from DOS?
