188621 2003-11-02 06:11:00 I have Norton AntiVirus 2003, I am trying to install 2004 version but it tells me i must first uninstall the 2003 version.

Trouble is when i goto unininstall it it tells me that "Installation ended prematurely because of an error" and I can't uninstall it at all.

Is there any way around this?

Thanks

188622 2003-11-02 06:18:00 Could be a difficult one. You could try the Norton support option, you leave them a message on their site and they get back to you within a week.

If you've got system restore on, you could try restoring from that, and then try uninstalling again.

If it won't uninstall properly, there are some programs out there which can remove it safely (don't know any names off-hand). If all else fails you could delete the program from the install directory, clear it out of the common files folder (C:\Program Files\Common Files), then run regcleaner.

188623 2003-11-02 06:27:00 RegCleaner is now JV16 PowerTools

The old RegCleaner (freeware) program is no more. It was a great tool while it lasted, but is no longer available and hasn’t been updated or supported for over a year. Fans of this neat little piece of work know how popular it has been over the last few years. All is not lost, because the newest version has been incorporated into JV16 PowerTools. If you are an old fan of the original RegCleaner, you will recognize this software author’s handiwork. Its newest encarnation has been honed to perfection and works great with Windows XP.

188624 2005-01-23 11:20:00 thankfully it doesn't cost money (yet) to download free stuff, so here's a couple of ways of fixing (or removing) NAV...Firstly, if you have the NAV CD, you're in luck...insert CD into CD-ROM drive...allow it to open. It may give options such as Install NAV or Install NAV & NIS...Choose Install NAV...It should then allow you to remove NAV without any hiccups.
Secondly...www.symantec.com enter "Removing Norton's Anti-Virus 2003, it will then guide you to a program called RNIS...(NAV Removal Tool)...and follow the steps from there...hope this helps as I have recently had 2 go thru the same process...so if its missing a few steps...let me know
