188542 2003-11-02 00:33:00 I'm running Win XP SP1 and my computer recently stopped showing open applications on the tool bar so i am now forced to use alt + tab to navigate between menus. Any ideas to reslove this issue would be great! zakh13 (4818)
188543 2003-11-02 00:44:00 Do you mean the start button, or the application listed along the task bar at the bottom of the screen?

Is the task bar visible? Is there a thin blue line at the very bottom of the screen? Or does it appear when you move the mouse to the bottom of the screen?

188544 2003-11-02 01:02:00 The tool bars are found in view, are they not? Thomas (1820)
188545 2003-11-02 01:05:00 I had exactly the same problem. The only way to solve it is to create a new user acount, then navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\.

Copy all the files in C:\Documents and Settings\[oldusername]\ EXCEPT ntuser.dat, ntuser.ini and ntuser.dat.log

to:

C:\Documents and Settings\[newuseraccount]\

That way you keep most of your settings and all of your files, and get your taskbar back.

It took me several weeks to solve this problem. Good luck. This is the thread I posted a while back pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

188546 2003-11-02 01:06:00 the application isn't listed on the task bar at the bottom of the page. The task bar is visible and i don't have "auto hide" checked in properties. I've also tried unlcocking the taskbar and sliding the different areas thinking that the open apps were hidden, but still no luck. zakh13 (4818)
188547 2003-11-02 01:15:00 try my suggestion, and see how it goes. somebody (208)
188548 2003-11-02 01:18:00 I've run a "search" and was unable to locate any files titled "ntuser.dat, ntuser.ini and ntuser.dat.log" I have created a new account. I have created the new account and cut and pasted the files in the new account and then tried to delete the old account, but was told it was necessary for windows to run properly. zakh13 (4818)
188549 2003-11-02 01:27:00 the ntuser.dat etc. files should be in the C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\ directory.

You will need to be logged out of your user account in order to delete the old account - do it from your new account.

It'd be better to delete the old account using the User Accounts panel in the Control Panel than to manually delete it from the C:\Documents and Settings\ folder.
