| 188487 | 2003-11-01 11:36:00 | The kids have been 'power using' the old computer again. It went absolutely fine until they got their sticky little mitts onto it.... Now the monitor display is fine while windows is booting (the windows start screen shows) but when it should go into the desktop the screen suddenly goes into a narrow fuzzy line. The little angels deny all knowledge of what they might have done so no clues there... I need help otherwise they will beg and whine and scream until I let them use my PC and this thought fills me with great unease. |

| 188488 | 2003-11-01 17:58:00 | I had a similar problem when I went from ME to XP, 5yr old 17" Monitor worked fine in ME, and still does, but whitelined more often than not under XP Never did figure out why, I used it as an excuse to get me a nice new(then) Philips 107T Tried swapping monitors? |

You should be able to log in, set the resolution and refresh rate to a very low setting eg. 800x600, 72Hz, and then reboot. If the monitor comes up OK after that, you can set the resolution back to what you normally use. |

Boot into safe mode (by repeated pushes of F8 key when you see "windows is starting" ) Right click on desktop and choose properties, then settings. Set the pointer to 640 x 480. Then OK out to desktop. |
