| 188446 | 2003-11-01 09:00:00 | I noticed a few mentions of direct-X 9 now being available and some video cards supporting it etc. Now i'm not into games, and I'm running a K6-266( maybe that the reason why!) and my video card is a Diamond Viper 330(don't laugh). At the moment its running Direct-X 5 & W98. I'm wondering if its worth while installing a later version of Direct-X. I realize DX9 is probably operating on a completely different level to my old Viper, but would it be worthwhile doing a minor upgrade to help the odd games I do have a go at. |

DX7 might be worth a look at if you really think you should upgrade it, but if there are any games that need higher than 7, they probably won't run on your computer anyway. Mike. |

Just by way of an explanation,I'm a bit of an optimization freak and like to tweak and get my machine running at peak efficiency without overclocking. | Rod ger (316) | ||
| 188451 | 2003-11-01 21:28:00 | i would update to dirextX 7.......a fair few of the older games which could run on your pc require it. i wouldn't bother with directX9 unless your really keen and don't mind doing a reinsall to get rid of it if it dosn't work very well. | tweak'e (174) | ||
| 188452 | 2003-11-01 22:56:00 | DX9 supports the very latest graphics cards and games will more than like ly create problems on a older system using DX7 should be fine | kiwibeat (304) | ||

| 188454 | 2003-11-02 02:27:00 | DX 7 was the standard for a long time... i would use that one. While you upgrade your DX version you might as well upgrade your video card drivers too. I think you'll see a more noticable difference with performance upgrading your graphics card compared to DX.... (unless they already are updated). | Dylan (800) | ||
