189010 2003-11-04 01:43:00 My new laptop came with WinXP - 2CPU, does this mean I can install another copy of this OS on to my desktop? Crazkilla (4482)
189011 2003-11-04 02:08:00 I would suggest that the 2CPU refers to the ability of XP to work with dual processors. That is a feature of XP Pro.

It can only be used on that computer. It cannot be installed on another PC - ever.

189013 2003-11-04 02:18:00 Isnt it a Windows/Office licensing rule that you can put it on ONE laptop and ONE desktop? Crazkilla (4482)
189014 2003-11-04 02:23:00 No.

You are confused with Microsoft Office EULA terms.

A full (not OEM) version of Microsoft Office will normally allow 2 installations provided they are not used concurrently.

Windows has never allowed that.

189015 2003-11-04 05:07:00 I get a funny feeling there is a licencing term that you can use Windows XP on only one CPU... and I don't know where I'm getting that from. agent (30)

Change that to 1 PC because 1 PC can have multiple CPU's. My new one has hyperthreading which shows up as 2 CPU's.

Not necessarily - you must still be licensed for a lot of software to be used on 2 or more CPUs. Win XP I believe is one piece of software - I think most XP Pro licenses will cover 2 CPUs, but if you have more than 2 CPUs in your machine you'll need additional licenses.

not quite. the licenses is for the PC not cpus. XP pro has a max of 2 cpu's. you need to have the server ver eg .net server before you can use anything more than 2 cpu's.
