| 188837 | 2003-11-03 02:12:00 | My P3 800 died, probably just a psu or even a on off switch, its just dead, nothing, won't start. Anyway, I was only using it for backups since I built my P4 2400 at xmas. Then while working in Wellington I bought a Toshiba Sattelite which I do all my work on now, and use my P4 for back ups. Now I have a dead P3 but I could use the hard drive in my P4 next to my existing hardrive, how do most people use two hard drives? It has ME operating system on it, same as the P4 but nothing really valuable that I don't already have on the other two systems. If I fitted it to my P4 what would I have to do to make it work along side my existing hard drive, format it or could I just leave ME on both discs? I was planning to one day play with Linux on the P3, but when I was ever going to get the time lord knows. What do others use two hard drives for, is it worth the time or not? | Danger (287) | ||
| 188838 | 2003-11-03 02:20:00 | A spare hard drive, or several spare hard drives are really useful, especially if you use plug-in hard drive caddies. Can be used for backing up your current hard drive to an independent drive, probably this is the best use. Or you can have a range of operating systems to plug in and play with. |

| 188839 | 2003-11-03 02:22:00 | Just change the jumper so it is the "slave". You can use FDISK to remove the present partition(s), repartition it, then format it. Be careful with FDISK to select the correct drive. :D It would be embarrassing to wipe the one you want to keep the contents of. ;-) What you use it for is up to you. You could put Linux on it. That's the safest way to install Linux, on a drive all to itself. :D You could use it as a backup drive. |

| 188841 | 2003-11-03 11:32:00 | If I decide to sell it tweak'e, I'll let you know. I'm a bit of a hoarder of stuff and I have a friend with a similar system, so may use it for spares. May find some old computer somewhere that has some parts I can use to get it going yet, I just don't know what I'll do with it. Cheers. |
