dvd-r

which one would play better on a stand alone player??

189311 2003-11-05 04:43:00 dvd-r will be recognisable by older DVD players, however newer ones should be able to play both. somebody (208)

189313 2003-11-05 05:30:00 FWIW, X-box can only read DVD-R/W ;-) Chilling_Silently (228)
189314 2003-11-05 07:22:00 sorry i wasn't really clear on what i was on about

189315 2003-11-06 04:08:00 aparently DVD+R/RW is more compadible with existing drives/players Megaman (344)
189316 2003-11-06 04:15:00 I would disagree. DVD-R came out prior to DVD+R, and were designed for older DVD players. Newer DVD players can read both DVD-R and DVD+R. somebody (208)
189317 2003-11-06 04:56:00 XBox and Playstation 2 can only read DVD-R.

I have found that most stand alone DVD players will read DVD-R but not DVD+R, although most of the newer ones now will read both.

189318 2003-11-06 08:05:00 so on the safe side i should burn dvd onto dvd-r
especially when the disk is going to be passed around the family

Backwards compatibility is definitely in favour of DVD-R ... IIRC DVD+R isn't that widely supported by newer generation DVD players.

Lo.
