| 189235 | 2003-11-05 01:33:00 | For my sins, and having also been in technical sales in my chequered career, the easiest people in the world to sell to are technical sales people :) They are so used to spieling that they believe anything :D I used to see the same old crowd on the precision engineering/metrology exhibition circuits and it was fun listening to the outrageous claims that were made as they tried to out-do each other in tall stories. Of course only yours truly told the truth, well, being a physicist one was brought up that way ;\ |

" " this is one our top models and it is future proof you won't have to upgrade it for at least 5 years " yea right " would you like a dvd burner with that to aid your surfing pleasure? " |

| 189238 | 2003-11-05 02:53:00 | When looking at buying stuff I always make sure I know a bit about what I'm looking at purchasing. It's fine me hassling these salespeople that don't know what firmware is... but I'm sure I'm just as bad when people come in to where I work. | -=JM=- (16) | ||

| 189240 | 2003-11-05 03:22:00 | I've got a friend (qualified electrican) who was fixing a guitar amp for a friend. He went down to the local DSE store to buy a new volume pot. The salesperson didn't know enough about resistance values etc., so randomly grabbed one which looked similar and tried selling it to him. Of course when he took it home it he realised it was the wrong one (trusted the salesperson too early), so had to take it back. I believe if a salesperson doesn't know about what they're trying to sell, they should ask a co-worker or someone to help them. It saves confusing customers and will give the store a good reputation for service. |

| 189242 | 2003-11-05 04:08:00 | Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 is your friend here: (bold is my highlighting) Section 8 Guarantees as to fitness for particular purpose Part 1 (a)That the goods are reasonably fit for any particular purpose that the consumer makes known, expressly or by implication, to the supplier as the purpose for which the goods are being acquired by the consumer; and (b)That the goods are reasonably fit for any particular purpose for which the supplier represents that they are or will be fit. Part 2 goes on to say that the above is void if the consumer did not rely on the supplier's skill etc Section 9 could also be looked at, which relates to goods matching a description. This generally refers to advertised goods being of the same specification as that what is supplied. You could take it back if you wanted to ... J :D |

However in the near future may be processsors which use single atoms as switches. That will lead to nano computers which can be injected into your body to hunt out tumours etc. |
