189804 2003-11-10 01:18:00 Next step: what does the interface window show when you haven't got any cards plugged in? It should show that condition. It should (if everything is enabled in that page) beep soon after a card is plugged in. Your system is probably hanging in that detection phase ... Graham L (2)
189805 2003-11-10 05:56:00 Murray, when first the modem wouldn't work, I formatted the hard drive and reinstalled windows. Phew. It still wouldn't work, but my hard drive is nice and tidy. :-) That would equate to removing and reinstalling the drivers.

I will try Dynalink again - first I want to follow what Graham is suggesting.

189806 2003-11-10 06:15:00 Graham, the interface shows (Empty) - Socket 1, and (Empty) - Socket 2 when nothings plugged in.
It doesn't beep, though the Windows box appears saying it recognises the modem is plugged in and "wait while it installs the drivers." That's as far it gets. Hangs there.

Could it be configured to the wrong Com port? What does that even mean?! :-)
Thanks for your help so far.

189807 2003-11-11 00:50:00 This is a nasty one. :_|

The interface is "probably" OK, then.

No yellow exclamation marks in the Hardware manager page?

I must confess that I was amazed when I plugged in a Compact Flash card in its adapter in. A brief pause, a beep, and a new "disk drive" appeared. :D

It's starting to look like bad hardware or bad software. ;-) Have you tried "<make and model> problems" to Google?

189808 2003-11-11 01:28:00 No, no yellow exclamation marks .

I'll go back to the Dynalink help site as Murray suggested and <make and model> problems to Google sounds worth a go .

I think I'll try an external modem . It did seem too good to be true that a second hand modem the size of a credit card would actually work .

Thanks for taking the time, Graham and Murray - I'll let you know if I sort it .

189810 2003-12-11 04:00:00 Thought I better round this topic off with an ending especially after the great help I got from Graham and Murray .

I contacted Craig Wallace at Dynalink as Murray suggested and sent modem away to them for testing . In no time, they sent me back a new replacement modem as mine had tested faulty . My modem had still been under warrenty which I didn't realize . Brilliant!

Anyway, let me say - Murray was quite right - Dynalink was a dream to deal with . I was impressed and I plan to sing their praises .

All the best

189811 2003-12-11 04:31:00 So our surgery was successful (if unnecesary) because the patient was dead before it reached the table. :D Graham L (2)
