| 189713 | 2003-11-06 09:34:00 | Hi, Our Norton's is due for renewal in a few days. I went to the Symantec site to discover that you choose which region you are in,Asia Pacific at $32.12 AUD. Last time we renewed it was in USD $14.95, this time $19.95 so an increase there from last time. NZ is in the drop down list of countries from there so I guess you can still use USD. I'm not too fussed on AUD's as I had a bit of a 'woopsy' to do with the Air New Zealand site but that is another story. With our dollar being the way it is at the moment what is the best way to go? Thanks Pauline. |

| 189715 | 2003-11-06 18:49:00 | Hi Metla, Not really the answer I was expecting! I did download AVG last year but have not installed it. I just might get that up & running if I don't get any other responses. Would I have to disable Norton's first because of conflict between the two? Will the updates take ages as the download was a year ago? Thanks Pauline. |

| 189716 | 2003-11-06 19:16:00 | hi no the updates do not take that long now, but they have changed the way they do updates if you have an install package that old I suggest you go to http://www.grisoft.com and check on any instructions there, but only if you get your updates manually( download them your-self) but if you use the automantic update system it should do it itself but it will require a restart and another update before you are ready. the first update may take a while but from there on in the updates take about 1 to 2 minutes on a bad connection. |

Make sure you download a new copy of AVG to get the latest version and updates. Updating the definitions is very quick these days. | tommy (2826) | ||
| 189718 | 2003-11-07 02:35:00 | To answer your question Pauline, you can't use anythng but NZ dollars anyway as the conversion is done when the money leaves your account . The renewal sub is NZ$32 . 20 at telegaphic transfer rates today, but some variation may occur if you use a credit card . IMHO that is good value for Norton AV and although AVG is an excellent choice for those on a tight budget, for absolute reliability and especially so for business use, I wouldn't use a free AV program if they actually paid me . With nearly 10 years without a virus infection and a reasonable but small number of incoming on floppies or email trapped before they could do any harm I am reluctant to abandon a reliable team . | 189720 | 2003-11-07 05:50:00 | Hi Pauline, I'm using NAV 2002, and like you needed to renew update defs recently. I followed their on screen options, and also got the price of $32.12 AUD for Asia/Pacific. Proceeding from there, I was asked to enter the Asia/Pacific country. After entering NZ, the price was converted to $35.91 NZD, and this is what was charged to my credit card for the renewal. It seems a reasonable currency conversion. |

On the Update Manager Tab you can allow scheduled update and set when you want to update, how old the definition files have to be before it is updated and how often you can try to update. J :D |

| 189722 | 2003-11-07 08:42:00 | There is another way of course and that is to un-install Nortron AV completely plus the Live Update and Live reg. Then use the Registry Editor to remove all the Symantec stuff out of Software in Local Machine & Local User. Finally re-install and do the updates and you will get another year sub. However this is not strictly the nice thing to do and as someone will no doubt point out should not be done. |
