| 190313 | 2003-11-09 06:38:00 | A friend has received and add inducing him to download a programme called Active Speed which undertyakes to give faster downloads and streaming - 375% faster. The address is www.ascentive.com and I think it came in via Kaza. Sounds ridiculous to me but he wants to try it. Anyone had any experience. |

| 190314 | 2003-11-09 06:50:00 | By the looks of it, I'd guess it's acting as a DNS/Proxy cache which does speed up your internet traffic - within reasonable cause - don't expect to exceed your normal speed. So regularly visited sites (google.com, etc) will have their images and DNS entries stored in this program and all it effectively does is check to see that it has the latest version of the site and then serve it up locally. While this is 'speed' it's not really using the connection - more just serving up pages from your local computer. Then, if that's correct, this wouldn't work too well for downloads though, unless you have a habit of downloading the same file over and over again. That's just my guess though - their website says nothing about the product except that it speeds your connection up to 375%.. CyberChuck |
