| 190087 | 2003-11-08 03:25:00 | not really helpful here but when i saw this thread i was thinking.. small medium large X-large and oh my god it's ginormous.... (no offence to any parties) and i have same trouble trying to figure out shoes the same way, there's no such thing as one size fits all any more. but i think they go by centimetres (96?) and inches (36-50? ) idea dont they? dont know otherwise. could be way off here but someone else may have ideas.... beetle |

| 190090 | 2003-11-08 04:24:00 | LMAO . . . . . the questions that get asked on this forum . . . . . . . . . :D OK, men's clothing is sold by neck sizes for shirts so if you are a size 42 then that would be the measurement of your neck in centimetres . Note that I am not sure if that is your actual measurement or just the size that fits you best . Once you know that size you can buy any shirt in size 42 and it *should* fit . For jackets they measure your chest size so your 96 would be the circumference around your chest in centimetres . The pants are measured around your waist in centimetres and the 39L is the length of the leg from the hem to . . . . um . . . . . actually, I'm not sure if that is outside leg length to waist or from hem to the crotch . Oh, and that is in inches! Measure your pants and find out yourself for that one . Other countries have quite different measuring standards, particularly the US who use inches . A size of 36 inches is around 92cm here so your 96 would be 38 inches I think . Size 50 is ginormous!! European measurements are fairly similar to ours but if you are wanting to buy clothes from overseas catalogues be very careful to check where and how they measure, particularly if they use sizes such as 10, 12, 14, etc (for women's sizes) . A US women's size 12 is very different to a NZ size 12 . The reason why it all looks confusing is because we use centimetres here in NZ but the US is still imperial and that is what you are probably seeing on the internet . |

| 190092 | 2003-11-08 05:07:00 | Sorry to contradict Beetle, but in New Zealand jargon and particularly NZ made clothes (if there are any NZ made clothes these days) S, M, L, XL etc absolutely DO NOT mean Small, Medium, Large, etc. Those letterings DO mean that in the UK, or at least did so when I lived there, but here for mens clothing; S= Sub midget M=Midget X=smaller than medium to about medium XL= medium but smaller than large ................ and so on Now I weigh 73 Kg, 92cm waist, and do not regard myself as bigger than medium, my shirts are 42cm neck, and my height is 1.77m BUT I have to get shirts such as T shirts, and bush shirts in XL to fit and to get sleeve length, underpants also have to be XL to fit (and Im not claiming anything extraordinary in that region:) ) I have never been able to understand this system, and when you see the size of some people they would have to have XXXXXXXXXXXXXL |
