190264 2003-11-10 11:09:00 I have yet had another customer complaining that his PC was running at a snails pace. The interesting thing was I ran Ad_Aware which found bloody Gator then ran Spybot which found other Gator entries as well as NewsUpdate or similar. He did not know Gator had been installed so they are a joke trying to sue anyone saying their software is not spyware or worse. :D
Let Claria die. X-(

190265 2003-11-10 14:38:00 Have a look at
www.pchell.com
for more information about this program.

Make sure you have AdAware on your PC and turn off all Auto Install in Windows to avoid this crap.

190266 2003-11-10 19:33:00 I was reading Gator's Privacy Policy the other day and thought I must be missing something because it did not look alarming at all, considering what Gator does. Maybe I did not read it properly? Susan B (19)

190268 2003-11-10 20:23:00 I've personally had Gator installed on my PC without any indication that it was going to be - not from online but from a software CD. It didn't uninstall cleanly either and required registry digging to root it out.

As this story suggests ("Spyware" Gator changes name (asia.cnet.com)) the name change might have more to do with ditching a name that has bad conotations than choosing one that "better reflects its other businesses".

Well I certainly didn't . My point was that if their Privacy Policy was complete and utter BS then we may as well take everyone else's PP with a huge grain of salt also and not believe any of them .

But like I said, I may have read it wrong or missed something . . . .

190270 2003-11-11 03:52:00 You must have spyware You Should download ad-aware off the pc world cd Also gator is not safe Say NO Tyrone B (4807)
190271 2003-11-11 07:56:00 > Gator or Claria is spyware NOT a virus.

One mans spyware is another mans virus. If it does things without telling you what it is doing then it is a virus. Just because it does not replicate itself and mail itself out to everyone means nothing.

190272 2003-11-11 08:13:00 yes and no. some antivirus companies do flag some spyware as virus due them being so bad. unfortunatly spyware/aware come into the catagory of "legit viruses". tweak'e (174)
