190210 2003-11-09 05:46:00 Did you try overlay software? mark.p (383)
190211 2003-11-09 18:24:00 Thanks, I'll try the DiscWizard Starter Edition and if that doesn't work I will check the drive in another computer. Not sure about overlay software which I though is some sort of driver you run but will look at that if other ideas don't work.
Thanks,

190212 2003-11-09 19:10:00 The Dynamic Disk Overlay is part of the DiscWizard Starter. It puts a bit of software on you hard drive, which is only used at boot up. It gets read at boot up and allows bigger drives to be used than your bios would normally allow. It slightly lengthens the boot time, and you have to press a key if you want to boot from a floppy.

It's not totally ideal, but it does enable drives to be used that couldnt otherwise.

190214 2003-11-10 02:50:00 go to the following www.seagate.com
if you have not been there before, it is by far the easiest way to format a new hard drive, maxtor do a set up disk also, far easier than fdisk, it will not do any harm to try it.

190215 2003-11-10 04:22:00 Ahem... tweake has already given that site for DiscWizard, see a little up the thread :) Terry Porritt (14)
190216 2003-11-10 08:34:00 You will also probly find that if you install Linux, then it will see the whole disk, even when the bios cannot.

I had an old Digital Venturas that could only see 8GB of a 20GB disk, installed Linux on it and the whole disk was there.

Try it out, see what a real OS can do for ya. Get a Linux floppy distro (leaf.sf.net) or CD distro (Knoppix) and try fdisk from there - you will more than likely see your whole disk

190217 2003-11-10 23:16:00 Thanks all, I downloaded and ran the diskwizard and if fixed the problem. I now see the whole amount of hard drive. I was surprised the BIOS upgrade didn't sort it out though.
Thanks again,
