The number of physicians in the United States is 700,000
Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year is 120,000
Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171
The number of gun owners in the United States is 80,000,000
The number of accidental gun deaths per year is 1,500

190013 2003-11-08 05:38:00 It seems to mention accidents in there ;-) -=JM=- (16)
190014 2003-11-08 06:06:00 Yeah! I'd like to see the comparison with intentional deaths included. Might paint a slightly different picture. I would also like to know whether the statistics are balanced to reflect international standards, eg, in the States your much more likely to be sued for causing something or other henious when in another jurisdiction its more likey to be put down to accident of misadventure, hence, comparitively the Staes figures are going to be inflated.

190015 2003-11-08 06:39:00 I suspect this number is very dodgy:

> Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year is 120,000

IIRC the number of people killed by cars in the US is only ~50K.

How do they define "accidental"?
What kind of condition were people in when they want to them? ie were these _preventable_ deaths.

Were the doctors that failed to separate those siamese twins at fault when they died?
