1350258 2013-07-31 09:28:00 Just set up an account with NZ Post YouShop service and attempted to buy a laptop from Sony.Com USA, but it is not happening !

1. Sony.com's order page does not allow numbers in the name field and the YouShop name I have to use has numbers in it!
Worked around that by putting the YouShop name as the Line 1 in the Address field and squeezed both address lines into
Line 2. Hope that does not affect the delivery.

2. Typed in the Zip Code of 97230 as provided by YouShop, but I then get asked to select a "County" which YouShop didn't
provide any info.

3. Entered my credit card info and the CVV code on the back of my Visa. It seems to allow me to save the card but when
I try to "Review" the order, it complains about the CVV code. May be it only works with USA cards??

Anyone has any advice on this?

Another thing is that there is USD $135 USA sales tax added to the order, I guess I will be stung with NZ GST when it gets
here as well. The GST is not really an issue as this is a business tool and I can claim the GST back.

1350259 2013-07-31 10:54:00 I think you can only purchase products within your own country only

You can't purchase an item from an overseas Sony store

1350262 2013-08-01 01:15:00 I believe 97230 is in Multnomah country. Yes, it's a it silly the name has numbers, and a few sites restrict name fields to letters, unfortunately not much YouShop can do about that - if they just used your name, and two people with the same name signed up, they'd have problems. Your approach is probably best. What about the CVV code is it complaining about? Some sites that try to verify the billing address and shipping address as the same can complain that the YouShop address doesn't match your card billing address. inphinity (7274)

1350264 2013-08-01 01:48:00 You could try buying it from Amazon. The YouShop address format seems to fits there nicely.. I've used it from Amazon with no problems.. paulw (1826)

I managed to put the order through after calling Sony.com while I was in Australia couple of weeks ago. They did try my Visa and it failed but at the end I used my Amex card and it accepted it. However, 10 minutes after I received the order confirmation by email, I received another email saying the order was cancelled as they no longer ship to re-shipping company address!!! ARGGGHHH, after going through all the trouble!

Email from Sony ...

Thank you for your recent order at Store.Sony.com. Unfortunately, we are
unable to authorize your purchase at this time because of a recent change in
shipping policies. We are no longer able to ship to freight forwarding
companies. You may still see an authorization on your account but no charges
will appear since the order was canceled. You can contact your bank to see
when the funds from the authorization will be released back to your account
and made available.

If you can provide a valid US ship to address that is not a freight
forwarding location, you may replace your order. To replace your order,
please visit www.Store.Sony.com or call our Sales Department at
1-877-865-7669. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank
you for your support of Sony.

1350266 2013-08-14 07:26:00 How big is the price difference buying from the US?

It is not the price difference. I can get the 4GB (only option) models in NZ cheaper than retail, and they are currently throwing in over $400 worth of extras in NZ ... Sheet Battery and a NFC Bluetooth Headphone. But I want 8GB of memory as I often run multiple VM concurrently and 4GB is just not good enough.

For some bizzare reason, the only two places I can find that supply the 8GB option is USA and Japan. I have tried their other web sites (NZ, Australia, UK, Singapore and HongKong). I have even email and called them but none of them can supply the 8GB option. Sony NZ just said sorry that they can't supply it. In fact, the Sony NZ web site and their marketing materials has upgrade option in it earlier on, but it has since been updated to reflected that it max out at 4GB.

It is a joke really, my 3.5 years old Vaio Z had 8GB of RAM, Quad RAID0 256GB SSD and Full HD and Dedicated graphics card back then. It will be a backward step to go back to 4GB and no dedicated graphics. I can live without the dedicated graphics card as I don't play 3D games, but 4GB RAM just does not cut it. Since they discontinued the Vaio Z2, this is the closest to it.

store.sony.com

So I either have to bother a friend in the USA to get it for me and courier it over. Or I settle with the only Z2 available in NZ at the moment ...

However my preference would be an 11" Ultrabook, not 13". I am extremely happy with my current Z1 but the 11" would fit much nicer in my backpack and hotel safes than the 13".

Sigh, may be I just have to wait till Sony get their Act together or see if Samsung will fill that void.

I have looked on Amazon, they only have the 4GB models too. The additional RAM must be installed at the factory and can only be ordered through the customised ordering system on www.sony.com
