1350247 2013-07-31 04:36:00 I am using Outlook 20003 on win 7 which, despite resetting defaults repeatedly to HTML, refuses to send emails in anything but plain text.
very annoying when I'm trying to send particular highlights etc
What to do?

... which is worse than plain text, unless the recipient is also running outlook.

I seem to recall (on a OL2010) the format setting also being stored per recipient (overriding the default) and accessible via their 'contact' entry.

1350251 2013-07-31 10:02:00 Thunderbird sets this info per contact as well. linw (53)
1350252 2013-07-31 11:15:00 After doing some reading some interesting facts.

Outlook 2003 actually uses the HTML rendering engine of Internet Explorer, outlook 2007 switched the HTML engine to MS word.

Outlook 2003 uses Internet Explorer 6 to render HTML, which is pretty bad by modern standards. Outlook 2007 & 2010 render HTML using Word (yes, the word processor)

Try changing Outlook 2003 settings to Word as the e-mail editor.Article explaining (www.msoutlook.info)

To set Word as the default editor for email messages in Outlook:

Select Tools | Options from the menu in Outlook.
Click on the Mail Format tab.
Make sure the Use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to edit e-mail messages checkbox is selected.
In versions before Outlook 2003, the text reads Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages.
Close the dialog.
Outlook 2007 and 2010 always use Word for editing.

1350253 2013-08-01 01:39:00 Thanks for the research WT but I am already using the MS Office Word HTML as default and can edit in Word but when sent the editing is all stripped out and sent in plain text no matter what I do in either HTML or Rich text. Apteryx (294)

Editd: What Antivirus do you have - doing some more reading AVG has caused this problem in the past ?

1350255 2013-08-01 05:19:00 Stab in the dark if its not the AV -
In Word 2003 choose, -> Tools ->Option -> General ->E-mail Options -> General tab -> uncheck the option "Filter HTML before sending"

1350256 2013-08-02 00:52:00 yes WT same settings. Also thought of AVG before posting but cannot see any AVG setting causing it. Also have WinPatrol and Security Essentials but they don't appear a problem either. Apteryx (294)
