1350028 2013-07-27 23:37:00 I had no trouble sending and receiving texts to/from the UK when I was with Vodafone.
However, since changing to Telecom (bought new smartphone-HTC one - its great:thumbs:), I've found that Steve, in the UK, is not receiving my texts.
I kept my Vodafone number and it's been "ported" to Telecom.
My son, Greg in NZ, did the same thing, bought an iPhone and kept Vodafone number when he changed to Telecom. Same thing, Steve in UK not receiving his texts either.
I got someone who has an 027 number to text Steve - nothing!
Does this mean that 027 is no good for texting the UK?
Maureen has an old (2003) Vodafone phone, her texts get through fine.
I've contacted Telecom 3 times about this, but, to be honest, they're blimmin hopeless - keep fudgin' the issue!

Does anyone know if there's an 027 issue between here and UK?
Are there 3rd party alternatives (without too much cost)?

Greg and I had to go with Telecom, as where he lives, around coast between Okato and Opunake the Vodafone service is pitiful.

1350029 2013-07-28 00:48:00 My 2D didn't work in Malaysia but was ok in Singapore. The signal dropped out regularly so even calls. In Japan, it was just momentarily but I did get my texts it just had to reconnect continously. Maybe local sims are king. Nomad (952)
1350030 2013-07-28 00:54:00 Provided your friend in the UK has a smartphone, I'd start using either WhatsApp or Viber (preferably needed at both ends). Antmannz (6583)

Thanks, maybe I should try one of those.
I read somewhere that there's no obligation on Telco's to guarantee delivery of texts, so maybe, they just don't care.

1350033 2013-07-28 02:04:00 I am with 2 degrees. A friend in USA always receives my texts, but it's hit and miss as to whether I receive his. I could be 100% wrong but I think the problem is at his end.

No problem at all with Canada. I'm sorry I can't help with UK as it's been a long time since I've sent a text there, but my daughter doesn't seem to have any problems.

1350035 2013-07-28 07:59:00 2Degrees used to have a message on their website that texts from a certain overseas provider wouldn't be received if you were using a ported number on 2Degrees, but OK with a 2D number. Similar problem but in reverse! wuppo (41)
