1326715 2013-02-06 03:49:00 Just been reading about it HERE (www.nzherald.co.nz).

A tsunami alert had been issued by the Pacific Warning Center in Hawaii following an 8.0 magnitude earthquake near the Solomon Islands.

The Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management said preliminary modelling suggests waves of between 0.2 and 1 metre high would arrive in New Zealand between 6pm and 7pm tonight.

1326720 2013-02-06 04:29:00 This is it!

"Civil Defence said the first wave may not be the largest and waves may continue for several hours. The public are asked not to go to the beach, and to share the news with families and continue to listen to the radio or monitor news sites."

1326721 2013-02-06 04:48:00 I see the headless chickens at TV3 running a ticker along the bottom of the screen "Tsunami Warning. head for the hills" or the like.. Think I may go for a stroll along the local beach.. paulw (1826)
1326722 2013-02-06 04:50:00 I heard the Civil Defence Director speaking on ZB. Although the wave will be a metre or less there will be underwater currents involved. Tsunami's can be likened icebergs where you see only a small proportion of the ice floating on the sea. Most of the iceberg is underwater. Bobh (5192)

Tide's low on this side of Auckland. I'm not worried at all. :D
