1349896 2013-07-27 07:34:00 Incidentaly. Telecom sent us a modem/router which we wers asked to use, so we did. n the side of it is a USB slot. What would one use this for? Thanks. PJ

If it's one of the Technicolor ones then you can put a Telecom data stick it it and use that if the ADSL falls over.. or you can add a external USB drive..

1349897 2013-07-29 09:58:00 Hurray...finally got sorted. Now on Xtra & Yahoo. Didnt want Yahoo but will give it a go. Then decide. Next thing is to advise addressees of the change. Still thinking about this whilst Orcon is still with us. PJ Poppa John (284)

1349899 2013-07-29 22:28:00 I havent had any issues with my xtra e-mail since day one....9 yrs ago!...i certainly wouldn't get a gmail account..i cant stand google!

I have,my customers have . Just this weekend in fact had send issues.

Issues with xtra/yahoo email:
1) delays in email , anywhere from a few hours to a few days. These are real, a friend would send 2 emails to me within 5 minutes, they arrived 4 hours apart
Ive sent emails to & from my work email adress to my home xtra adress, Ive had (very)occasional delays of 2 days
2) issues with ipods, phones 'confusing' yahoo with multiple logins (hey its 2013, not 1995): Ive seen this on a few customers email a/c's. They would get locked out of email , on & off, for anywhere from a few hours to several days : it comes up with a password error, despite the password being correct & working again some time later .There have been posts on this forum & geekzone from users this issue.
3) security issues : we all know about how lax Yahoo was with security, being warned about security issues & doing nothing.
4) issues with the spam filter: this filter cant be disabled (Yahoo admit this ) . It catches far too much legit email, email adresses that should have been whitelisted for everyone, commonly used NZ email adresses
5) British Telecom thought the issues with yahoo were bad enough, that they dropped them completely

So honestly, if you are changing email provider, go with Google or Microsoft now.
Wait to long & you may regret it .

1349900 2013-07-29 22:35:00 I do have problems with Xtramail, on and off, not no big deal. There are lots of spam emails, though - after they changed to Yahoo.

I have been using Xtramail since my day 1 of using email in those dail-up days. Did encounter 2~3 big issues during my years of using it.

1349901 2013-08-03 23:46:00 OK Folks...Just an update & another question

Xtra all set up & no problems so far, except for my question.
Orcon want their router back & have sent a prepaid courier bag.

So The tw0 PCs are XP Home SP3. On OE8. Added the xtra to OE Mail, copied exactly as it was on the Orcon Setup. On the Orcon Setup I have Orcon as POP3 & xtra as SMTP. This all works.

Now the Q. Maryann's Toshiba laptop is W7 & Windows Live Mail. I set this up same as on the XPs. She gets emails from Live Mail & Hotmail but not from Orcon ot Xtra. Why? Is there a box that I have not ticked? Thanks PJ

You dumped Orcon for Xtra -- So they will have closed your account -- no Account = no Mail from Orcon - any email address you had with Orcon will be gone UNLESS you are paying a monthly fee to them to keep it open. You will need a new user name and password for Xtra email.

One thing ALL ISP's are very good at  forgetting to tell people changing is that they dont have an email account with the original provider any longer and have to create new ones with the new ISP . Mails like Live/ Hotmail will work with any ISP as they are free and not linked to any internet ISP.

1349904 2013-08-05 10:49:00 Bloody timer ran out again grrrrrrrrrr -- you have to also make sure that if you have the same account on various computers they have to be set to leave a copy on the server ( Xtra Mail) other wise what ever computer downloads the mail, will clear it from the xtra server, thus other computers cant download anything because its already come through. wainuitech (129)

Not correct wainuitech . Orcon have a long-standing tradition of lifetime email addresses . Once you have one you have it for life regardless of whether you no longer pay them for your internet . That is what I and others were talking about in previous posts .

Poppa John says he can receive receive emails from Orcon on his other two computers, just not the laptop . I don't use Windows Live Mail (WLM) so I can't advise what the solution is but at a guess it is because WLM is web based mail and can only handle emails to Hotmail and WLM?
