1326761 2013-02-07 08:30:00 Just quadrupled my Internet speed from Orcon by going to Netsmart. Sorry trick post. I have no gripe with Orcon, but as I live south of Auckland(rural) it means copper produces 1.5-2 mb\sec max. Netsmart are WiMax and that seems a LOT better. Not fully connected up yet , phone not changed over, and I have had to abandon my NetComm NB6plus4Win in favour of a wireless router and Gargoyle(thanks Chill). New toys to play with!! I feel a little less pi**ed off at having to pay $20/month extra, because I am "Rural", and the speeds have been so slow. PPp (9511)
1326762 2013-02-07 21:37:00 I am not seeing stunning performance from any of the others thou, at least not on this thread

I have found that no matter the speed of my connection, a lot of international sites suck when you make only one connection to them.

If you connect with a download manager and use multiple connections, or preferably, multiple mirrors from different countries, you get much better performance and usually top speed. The ones I know of that can do multiple connections from multiple sites are Getright, Free Download Manager, and aria2

Bittorrent also works great, as it is naturally from many sources.

For the record, my test to the server in Texas got 7.89 Mbit \ 0.79 Mbit with ping of 191ms. That's on my Telecom ADSL connection.

However that may be falsely slow, because Flash lags on this computer. I refuse to upgrade it though because except for the bloated crap that is Flash, it handles pretty much everything else just fine. Will test again on my other one, see if it makes a difference...

1326763 2013-02-07 22:00:00 That is a reasonable speed Agent, I would be well not happy but happier with that. DeSade (984)
1326764 2013-02-08 00:34:00 Trev, I used to be with one of the big boys ISP up until a year ago and was getting in excess of 2Mb/s download and funnily enough they had no clue to what was causing it.

They made me buy a new modem/router, ha! Still same pitiful speeds.

I switched to Actrix and from minute one I got 11-12Mb/s down and the usual 1Mb/s up. One year on is still the same, and did I mention they are quick to answer the phone, in proper kiwi English, they know what they are talking about and are very helpful.

Oh, and yeah, I am on the old copper cables ADSL ... nothing fancy.

Give them a call.

1326765 2013-02-08 00:44:00 I am with Actrix since 2002 or there abouts. Doing a local test I get 15.6 DL and 0.52 UL.

1326766 2013-02-08 00:48:00 Lmao! sorry Trev you were the typical victim of a mistaken identity case. My apologies, was meant for DeSade (le marquis).

By the way, how do you like Actrix Trev? I really like them.

1326767 2013-02-08 01:46:00 Actrix looks ok.
I am concerned about the contract period if they suck thou....
They are also not a member of the TDR

Other than that they look ok.

Has anyone experienced any (any at all) throttling with them?
DeSade (984)
