| 1326861 | 2013-02-07 18:45:00 | Who is 'we'? All New Zealander's who pay tax? Where did it say who was being billed? The article said "Department of Conservation officials and local iwi are using two diggers to bury the whale". Sounds like shared resources, labour and machines etc. Jen, the WE I refer to is the 85% of us who pay tax only to see a great deal and disproportionate amount of it spent on a racially selected group, namely Maori. As for who pays, the Iwi should pay now they own the seabed and foreshore. How would you feel about contributing to the cost of cleaning up my backyard? As for the nice touchy feely comment you draw attention to in post #5. I quote: Napier resident Julia Probert, who is visiting the region, says she is impressed with the gentle nature of the people involved in the burial and says it has been treated with respect. The graders are so gentle moving the whale. It gives you tingles. I think they have shown great respect in moving and burying the whale. Well, it hurts me to have to point out to Ms Probert that the graders were actually diggers, and the gentle moving of the Whale that gave her the tingles had little to do with respect, and everything to do with the fact the Whale was badly decomposed and they didnt wish to spend the day picking up pieces of rotten meat. I hope this clarifies my position on the fiasco. :) |
