1350482 2013-08-02 06:11:00 Current Computer is 8 years old. HP Pavilion Desktop 061. 143GB harddrive, 2500MB Ram, Intel 3.06GHZ, Nvidia GE force turbocache 6200 256MB, 17" Benq monitor and using Windows XP. Where do I go from here?

My needs: A widescreen Monitor about 20". Reasonably good graphics card. I use my computer for quite a lot of live streaming, playing adventure type games. Frogwares who develop the Sherlock Holmes series are using the Unreal 3 engine for their next production which my computer probably won't handle. Need to be able watch live streaming of sports or other programs which Sky might decide to drop like Motogp. Bit of Photoshop stuff. I'm sure I do other stuff as well, just can't think of what just now. I'd prefer windows 7

I was looking at a HP Envy Touch Smart 23-D006A All In One Desktop at $1500 but reviews of the Radeon 7540A graphics cards aren't good and it has windows 8. Not sure if the all in one is the way to go. What could you suggest that would have windows 7 and suit my needs. Is an upgrade of my current computer possible. Thanks

1350484 2013-08-02 10:32:00 An upgrade of your old computer is not possible for what you want.
A new motherboard, RAM and CPU is needed, along with the graphics card, and you would not want to use the old power supply.

For home use I build my own, but recently we bought a desktop for the business and I can recommend OnlineSale Computers. He (Jerry Lee) is on Trademe, has an excellent rating, has very competitive prices, had super communication with me and sent a custom built PC quickly. For a start have a look at this page here (onlinesale.co.nz). Whatever you choose it will be a huge jump ahead from your 8 year old machine.

[edit] Make sure you get a USB 3.0 computer.

1350485 2013-08-02 11:38:00 And make sure that it has an SSD :) Zippity (58)
1350486 2013-08-02 23:35:00 Thanks for suggestions. Somewhere like OnlineSale might be the way to go and they would be able to recommend something specifically for my needs. Is there someone in Christchurch doing the same which would be better for any tech problems after purchase. bellbird (6169)
1350487 2013-08-02 23:57:00 I found a thread from last Dec "Looking for Computer Builder in Christchurch" and PCs Unlimited in Christchurch were suggested. I looked at their website and they have a System Builder so I was able to enter my requirements (well, the stuff I understand and I guessed at the rest) and get an idea of cost. bellbird (6169)
1350488 2013-08-03 00:06:00 And make sure that it has an SSD Why? The benefits of SSD are only marginal, unless you're a rabid gamer. Greg (193)
1350489 2013-08-03 01:18:00 I'm not a gamer and the results are far from marginal. Zippity (58)
1350490 2013-08-03 01:46:00 I'll buy one when they come down to a reasonable price. Driftwood (5551)
1350491 2013-08-03 03:25:00 Fair enough :) Zippity (58)
