1349816 2013-07-25 07:37:00 Hi,
I am building a new PC, mostly for gaming and normal emails/web surfing etc. I chose the GTX 660 ti but after reading some comparisons, I change to the 7850.
Which is the best model/brand to get?
It's fairly urgent.
Thanks

1349817 2013-07-25 08:09:00 Asus or Gigabyte, Gigabyte seem to be cheaper in NZ so probably pick one of those.
something like www.computerlounge.co.nz which has a nice OC and is still cheaper than the Asus standard clocked model.

Of course if you had another $150 to spend you could get www.computerlounge.co.nz which would be better, but that's a big price hike also.
And then at the mid point www.computerlounge.co.nz which is pretty close to the 760 and still $110 cheaper.

Myself I prefer Nvidia for the consistency in game performance I've experienced, but with that big of a price difference I'd be tempted to go AMD also and they are great cards.

My motherboard is crossfire compatible only and Nvidia is quite a bit more expensive.

+1

Both have a 3 yr warranty. I prefer ASUS, but have bought Gigabyte for price.

Sapphire don't have the reputation for reliability of the others, they are cheaper for a reason. That said my current card is a sapphire I got for the price and it's been great so far, it's a gamble.
I prefer Asus also, but Gigabyte is a very good brand and cheaper - which is why I recommended them.

The question was best brand, it may be Asus, it may be Gigabyte, it's not Sapphire.

1349822 2013-07-25 22:48:00 Just like motherboards, buy a decent brand. Cheap video cards use cheap components like crap capacitors and fans. Agent_24 (57)
1349823 2013-07-26 01:06:00 For the $50 difference, the 660Ti is considerably faster than the 7850! SolMiester (139)

Check out this. Seems like the 7850 is the winner.
I went with Gigabyte 1GB one. Seems pretty good and I can always add a second one.

Thanks for all the responses!

1349825 2013-07-27 11:18:00 660ti beats the 7850 in the linked benchmarks... Oh well, the 7850 is still a great card. icow (15313)
