2013-02-05 22:11:00 | I am starting the hunt for a new ISP. Can I get people in Christchurch to please run a speedtest and tell me what speed they are getting. Please use speedtest.net and test to the Austin Texas - Doublehorn Communications node. Thank you

Choosing between Telecom, Orcon or Telstra for example isn't going to offer that much of an advantage. It would largely depend on the Cabinet hardware and the ADSL line. Big question would be support, I know some people don't have much to say about Orcon but I have never had an issue with them. Now of course someone may grab the nearest fish and slap me across the face with it for telling porkeis but I'm pretty sure that the above is the case :) |

2013-02-06 01:57:00 | Fair enough. Out of interest I tried your suggested node to see what I got, about 7mbps down and 5 up. I'm on a 30/10 Fibre plan with Orcon. Local speeds are great, pretty much 27/9 mbps to all NZ nodes. International is a bit different but I think that *might* be a NZ wide issue. Usually I can sustain a 4MB/s download from the US, so the speed test doesn't tell all for me at least. Interesting how everyone is having a rough time with Orcon, they'd better sort themselves out before everyone ditches.

2013-02-06 04:28:00 | maxnet's unlimited plan isn't any slower than I was getting on there 80 gb plan. It is slightly more expensive but maxnet is really reliable. | jonovw (16835) | |
2013-02-06 04:29:00 | I get D/L 2.07Mbps U/L 0.49Mbps and a ping of 213ms. :)
