| 190740 | 2003-11-10 20:10:00 | I'm building a new computer and i'm gonna get 2 SATA 80gig drives and have them in a RAID-0 array... 1) I was wondering (since I've never done this b4) after putting it in a RAID-0 array the computer basically thinks it's 1 big 160 gig drive? 2) and also I will need at least 6 different partitions is it still possible to partition a drive once u put it into RAID-0? 3) If it is possible to partition do u partition the drives as with a normal hard drive in this case would it be the same as partitioning one 160 gig drive? |

| 190741 | 2003-11-10 20:25:00 | 1) Yes, once you have set up the RAID-0 array the operating system will see it as just one 160GB HDD 2 & 3) It is still possible to partition the "160GB HDD" as normal Only down side to RAID-0 is if one of the HDDs fails you lose all data on both HDDs :( so make sure you keep regular backups |

| 190742 | 2003-11-10 20:36:00 | 1. you set in the bios/cmos that you are going use those 2 as raid-0. then your computer will see it as raid-0 disc array. whether the disks will be seen by the operating system as 1 160G depends on the driver. so if you dont have the right linux driver, they may look different. it will be alright under w2000/xp. 2. yes, you can do that. 3. I would say yes in windows 2000/xp. when you install w2000/xp, press F6 to manually install driver for the array. consult manual for more details. |
