190610 2003-11-10 05:38:00 I want to format my hard disk again, I did it about a year ago but now I've forgotten, how do you do this in XP? Seeing as there is no DOS?

190612 2003-11-10 05:50:00 How many hard disks do you have, are you planning to format a disk which had Windows XP on it? In other words yu want to start a fresh copy of everything on your drive.

If that's what you're doing, best thing to do is boot your PC with the Windows XP CD in your optical drive then go through the setup process, when it comes to " preparing your hard disk" just select "format using NTFS" or format using "FAT32" depending which one you're currently using and Windows XP will format the drive. If you select "leave current file system" the it will leave your drive contects the way it is save your windows folder and the my documents folder ( documents and setting folder - in XP).

Alternative to the 2nd option you could use a program such as Powerquest's Partition Magic 8, to do all of the above.

happy formatting
cheers

If on the other hand you;re going to format a 2nd drive all you gotta do is open "My Computer", right click on the drive you want to format,
Select--->Format, choose the options yu want the click format.

Make sure you have no 3rd party or any other disk utilities running otherwise XP won't allow you to format it.
