190645 2003-11-10 11:55:00 Using XP-Pro with Admin rights I get "Registry editing has been disabled by administrator" when trying to regedit or install certain programs that alter the registry (eg Norton AV).

How do I enable registry editing?

Thanks

Ferg

190646 2003-11-10 13:34:00 Have you by any chance clicked the Immunize option in Spybot as that will stop you from being able to access the registry and many other admin functions. Turn off Spybot after de-selecting immunize hopefully that is your problem. Odin (227)
190647 2003-11-10 19:16:00 Try getting Super Rabbit Magic Set from superrsoft.com

Ive used it on a couple of machines to re-enable registry editing :-)

190648 2003-11-10 20:21:00 ferg,

From a command prompt click START | RUN and in the run box type CMD and press Enter.
Type the following line (REG DELETE...) into the command window and press enter - you will be prompted as to whether you wish to delete it ... do so.
If the value does not exists then you will get the error "The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value"
REG DELETE HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pol icies\System /v DisableRegistryTools

If that was not there then try the following from the command prompt:
REG DELETE HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pol icies\System /v DisableRegistryTools

Cheers, Babe.

Oooppsss, the "From a command prompt" words should NOT be there... :( but the rest is correct. Sorry about that!

Cheers, Babe.

Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\System

Value Name: DisableRegistryTools
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = allow regedit, 1 = disable regedit)

190651 2003-11-11 03:39:00 Spot on thanks Babe...got it with the second one!

You know, I searched the net for ages and couldn't find that answer, the only place that possibly had a solution asked a mere US$10.00 for the answer.

Cheers
