190973 2003-11-11 10:40:00 Using Windows XP how can I change the location of My Documents from C drive to D drive so when I save a file it defaults to My Documents in D Drive? suethomo (4694)
190974 2003-11-11 10:46:00 Click Start
Right-click on My Documents and choose Properties

You'll find a little window popup with your current My Docs folder, simply modify this by clicking Move and selecting a new destination.

Cheers

190977 2003-11-12 02:00:00 Godfather has warned in the past about storing all data in the default My Documents because he has found that if the profile becomes corrupted it can take all the data and files with it.

On his advice what I have done is create my own Documents folder elsewhere on the computer (D: drive) and have my shortcuts point to that. When saving files I have Word, Excel, etc set to point to this Documents folder and most other programs also default to there if a file was saved there the last time. I do not use the default My Documents, My Pictures, etc at all.

One advantage of this is that my Documents folder is much quicker to navigate to than the default My Documents within each profile.
