191717 2003-11-13 20:37:00 I have had XP on my E:partition and Win98SE on C:. I applied to XP the SP1 upgrade, no problems. I then applied IE6SP1 and found that the system had to recover a previous good registry file to boot the system to E: when I wanted it. Didn't think much about it (but should have!!!)

Now here is the rub!

Deciding that I could now move fully onto Xp, I reformatted C: and installed Xp there - no problems. I upgraded to XPSP1 - no problems, all worked fine.

Then......

I went one step further and upgraded IE6 to IE6SP1 (not from PC World's disk).

Problems immediately. I cannot now start the system. I do get the XP logo screen which dies and the system reboots ad infinitum.

I believe the IE6SP1 upgrade was corrupt (and should have realised this from the problems I have been experiencing on E:) and so I need to go back to the old IE6.

How can I solve my problem?

Do I try to load IE6 (or IE6SP1 from PC Worlds cover disk) or should I start from scratch and completely load XP again?

As I see it, I need to start from scratch as I cannot get into the system to load IE6 from a non bootable disk. Any comment welcolme?

Thanks, Bryan.

191718 2003-11-13 20:44:00 Have you tried booting off the Windows XP CD, and gone into the Recovery Console?

There isn't really much you can do there, but try the command 'fixmbr', I think it is.

And before you computer reboots upon booting, is there a flash of a blue kernel error screen, for less than a second?
