191697 2003-11-13 20:02:00 All of a sudden never happened before, the dial up box to go on line is now coming up on boot up. I always had to hit short cut to make it appear. Anyone know how to stop this? Running Windows ME and Internet Explorer 6. Cheers. bruciebear (1478)
191698 2003-11-13 20:13:00 Run a scan with Spybot S&D from Spybot.info
Do an AV scan while you're at it.
You're running WinME, So click start
-Run
type in:
msconfig
Have a look at whats in the "startup" or "autorun" tab and untick anything that shouldnt be loading on boot.

What's happening is something, spyware, virus, or application, is on your PC wanting to connect, to either report back to a parent company (spayware), spread itself (virus), or update itself (software).

Hope this helps

191699 2003-11-13 22:07:00 Hi bruciebear.

To make the dial up box appear automatically click tools/internet options. Then click connections tab, and make sure "always dial my default connection" has a dot in it.

Therefore if you remove the dot I presume the dial up window will not appear. Try that anyway.
