192436 2003-11-16 06:47:00 Ok so I'm buying a digi video camera, and I need a firewire card. IEEE 1394 or whatever. Does anyone know of a cheap source I can get something that will do? And also, are some better than others? Like, will a better quality card have faster transfer, or differing video quality, anything like that? or does it not matter? tango (2697)

192438 2003-11-16 06:58:00 firewire card = 1394 card

best thing to do is:

use google.co.nz to search your camera model and firewire
it will turn up heaps info. avoid possible conflicting chipset.

some camera may have problem with certain chipset.
I got a nec-chip based 1394 port on my mainboard. I still funny got video recording. scale back graphics acceleration greatly reduced the problem.

some new camera got dual interface USB2 and 1394..~~~~~~~if your pc also support USB2.0...

192439 2003-11-16 10:40:00 it will only depend on how fast you current motherboard is
it won't change your quality
it will only be a bit slower if you have an old motherboard
if you have a new one buy a firewire 2 card
its twice the speed

192440 2003-11-17 03:07:00 I suggest you first find out what capture software comes with a 'Firewire' card.

My 'Pinnacle DV' card came with a complete editing package with transitions and FXS to capture / edit and then create a movie to send back to a fresh tape or CD or VCD.
