2003-11-16 03:51:00 | Would I be able to install a copied version of Office 2000 onto my new Windows XP computer. Would I be able (and should I) download any service packs for Office and Windows XP. Cheers, Nathan.

2003-11-16 04:00:00 | Hi Nathan. Welcome to PressF1. It might pay to read the post at the top of the list labelled "Rules....." You can install whatever you like on your PC and nobody will really do much to stop you... Just be careful with Piracy, coz I know that windows update checks your WinXP CD/Product Key, so what's to say that updating office wont check its own key if you're a Pirate? Buy a legit copy of Office 2000 and you'll be fine! Microsoft can and do check the keys on that sorta thing.... Chill.

2003-11-16 04:23:00 | just to add.........like XP office 2000 has copy protection/activation so if that copy is in use you will have some explaining to MS to do. | tweak'e (174) | |

2003-11-16 05:39:00 | Office 2000 doesn't have copy protection or activation!? The only protection it has is that a correct product key is required to install. | PoWa (203) | |
2003-11-16 05:45:00 | No, Office 2000 doesn't have copy protection, but it did used to require activation. However, this has been phased out, for a reason I've forgotten. | agent (30) | |
2003-11-16 06:16:00 | not 100% sure with the oem or "ofice suite" vers but the full office vers have activation, i've had to ring MS to activate mine when i upgraded the pc. its the first lot of MS products to get the XP like activation. | tweak'e (174) | |
2003-11-16 06:29:00 | Only South America and Australasia sourced Office 2000 versions needed activation from memory. We were the "guinea pigs" for the worldwide process with later versions. It bemuses me that people are so arrogant with piracy. To blatantly make such admissions, when at the same time having an easily traceable identity in their profile....
