192182 2003-11-15 07:59:00 I saw a demo today of a prog called EasyClean 1.7 which seemed to clean out garbage registry entries. It also does other cleanup jobs which I didn't understand too well.

Has anyone had experience - good or bad - with EasyClean, or any other recommendations of registry cleaners?

Thanks

192183 2003-11-15 08:11:00 Have you got a link for that one? It appears to have a similar name to Toniarts Easycleaner which is a good program and recommended.

If it is Toniarts Easycleaner you need to be careful about using the duplicate files utility if you don't know what you are doing. Best to leave that part alone. ;-)

192184 2003-11-15 08:26:00 yes it will be the same program. Quite safe to use only the regestry cleaner. If you want a safe registry cleaner for XP then go here (www.softpedia.com) and download regscrubXP. Pheonix (280)
192185 2003-11-15 08:28:00 Yes, I have used it for a while now, and for a free program it is good value for money :)

Just be careful as Fire&Ice says about using the delete duplicates, in fact I wouldnt advise it at all.

There is a new beta 2.0 version that Im using, it ok but all in all I think 1.7 is a bit better, since 2.0 clears things like cookies without telling you explicitly.

192186 2003-11-15 08:28:00 Hi Martina

EasyCleaner is known to cleanout your XP help files so that they no longer load. It is even stated on their FAQ page:
There is a known problem in Windows ME & XP, that is when the registry scan is ran and all the items are deleted, Windows help system doesn't work anymore. The workaround to this problem is just to ADD the word help to the skip-list. Even if you DO delete some important info, there is certainly NO NEED TO RE-install Windows. BECAUSE EasyCleaner always creates backups (with default options) which can be restored easily. I also offer a fix file with these 4 entries listed ready to be imported back to the registry, see the download center.

You might want to consider another program or make sure that you follow their fix for this problem :)

192187 2003-11-15 10:00:00 Yes, of course, it was Toniarts Easycleaner. As usual I was lean on the info.

Thank you all for the responses.

192188 2003-11-15 21:48:00 Jen C is quite right, that's why I went to Beta 2.0 when I installed XP. Version 1.7 cleans out the XP help files, Beta 2.0 doesnt, I had forgotten. Terry Porritt (14)
192189 2003-11-16 08:02:00 A little history. Toni was 17 when he programmed EasyCleaner. Even has a picture on his website here (www.toniarts.com) He really looked 17!!! Rod ger (316)
