192174 2003-11-15 04:40:00 I have a AthlonXP 1800 running W98SE with 512 Mb Ram. I have just installed a Winfast 2000XP Tv Tuner card, everything runs fine until I try to record or use the timeshifting function, then the picture goes choppy and starts stuttering.

According to the Leadtek Winfast website my PC should be able to handle this, unfortunately its not! Have I got the settings wrong and can someone recommend a site with regard to the setup etc of TV Tuner cards?

Cheers Marv

192175 2003-11-15 06:46:00 What software are you using to do this?
What else are you running in the background?

Have you updated the graphics drivers of your main card?

192176 2003-11-15 10:42:00 It came bundled with Winfast PVR. No haven't done the drivers for the main card, should I do that? BigMarv (4875)
192177 2003-11-15 10:58:00 Yes, its possible the card software expects later drivers.

There is also the possibility that the card may not support your video chipset in "overlay" mode which can make the CPU work overtime.

Does it run OK in a small window, and not full screen?

192178 2003-11-15 11:23:00 It doesnt make any difference either way, fullscreen or small. Still choppy. Im downloading the drivers now, through bitter tears, stupid game...

Rugby that is...

I have heard that Winfast PVR is not that great can you recommend a different Player?

Cheers Marv

192179 2003-11-15 11:42:00 There are lots of things that can affect the recording of programs with a tv tuner card, 1 is cpu, 2 is memory (speed and amount) and another major factor is the speed of your harddrive if it is only 5400 rpm instead of 7200rpm then that will cause some problems. The other thing is the audio and video codecs that you are using you may need to configure them to handle Frames per second etc etc etc Odin (227)
192180 2003-11-15 23:03:00 Ok But for a dumby like me , I have the 7200 speed HDD, the CPU as specified, and 512 Mb ram, shouldnt that be enough?

I saw a thing called a Megabox at the bigboystoys show and it was running a P4 2.4 with 256Mb Ram, it ran perfect. I know its a faster CPU but its less ram?

So how do I configure the Codecs etc, are there any websites that have this info for beginners?

Thanks for all the help

Marv

192181 2003-11-15 23:24:00 So, let me get this straight, Capture works, but Time-shifting doesnt?

Try downoading Virtual Dub and using that to capture....

I know Doze has issues with playing mpg/avi files that are in use... In most apps anyways.
Could this affect it?
