2003-11-16 07:55:00 | Could be a memory problem. Run Memtest386 on it and see what happens. There are plenty of MB's out there with the 875P socket that are having memory problems running in Dual channel mode. I know because my Gigabyte GA-8KNXP is one of them. I have had to put the DIMM voltage up +0.3, run at DDR333 instead of DDR400 and slightly alter the memory timing to get mine stable. New MB coming for me. I have 1GB ram and had errors reported in several places that caused instability mostly in games.

2003-11-16 10:30:00 | i have EVERYTHING updated Windows, Divers, Games, DirectX i personly put it down to my 400w PSU what we must rember is that if the PSU came with the PC and it says 300w or 400w doesn't mean it is that standed PSUs are not to be trusted by the sticker run a VoltMeter thew it and you will find it can drop upto 40% one of my friends had the same problem and when he bought a new PSU it worked fine

2003-11-16 20:45:00 | Well, I'm currently re-running Memtest386, cause the whole thing just froze when it was almost an hour into the testing (to be more exact, it was 58mins into the test before it froze) . And just wondering, how many tests does it run before it finishes? Hmm, Icute, is that not a good brand PSU or is it just not enough watts? Cause I spent $140 inc gst on that PSU almost a year ago . . . did I get ripe off? I do have a internal modem, but I dont think its based on Rockwell chipset . Never had problems with UT or CS . . . though . Oh yeah, if I want to buy a new battery for the m/b, is there a specfic one that I need to buy (eg batt that only made for comp m/bs)? or just anyone that has the same code or type? Thanks again Jase Sen

2003-11-16 20:57:00 | Awww, now Memtest386 frozed 30mins into the testing >_< . Its the DDR400 ram that is causing the problem isn't it? Jase Sen

2003-11-16 20:59:00 | Just buy a battery at the supermarket battery stand. It will be CR2032 most likely, and the Energiser brand are fine. It will be very unlikely that the battery is the cause of lock-ups. The battery is only active when the power is off.

2003-11-16 20:59:00 | Memtest keeps running until you stop it as far as I know. If it froze almost an hour into the testing that *could* indicate a problem but others will have to advise on that one. >Hmm, Icute, is that not a good brand PSU or is it just not enough watts? > Cause I spent $140 inc gst on that PSU almost a year ago...did I get ripe off? But you said that the PSU currently being used is not the iCute? Does the same problem occur with the iCute installed? For the new battery any battery with the same code or type as currently installed will be satisfactory. Check the battery stands at your local supermarket.

2003-11-16 22:09:00 | > > try the icute but you really should be useing a good quality 350 watt psu . Because of what Tweak'e said, it sounded like Icute isn't a very reliable brand . I myself dont know much on which brand is good and which is bad when it come to PSU's, so just wanted to know ^^ , though did I get ripe though? A 320W Icute PSU $140 inc gst, brought it almost a year ago . Or else he meant that I should use a 350W PSU, and come to think of it 300W isn't so much to power for the whole system to run stable . And yeah, if its really the DDR ram (i think it may be too), then I'll take it back it QMB within the next 2 weeks . Thanks Jase Sen

And just wondering, > how many tests does it run before it finishes? Quite a few, it will probably take a couple of hours for the standard tests . It is a good stability test, so leave it running overnight if you have to . > Hmm, Icute, is that not a good brand PSU or is it > just not enough watts? Cause I spent $140 inc gst on > that PSU almost a year ago . . . did I get ripe off? I hope that price included the case, otherwise thats more than a 350W enermax . I actually though the icute was quite a good PSU for the price, aside from the noise . Mine ran my athlon + r9000pro fine, but the P4s use quite a bit more power so its quite possible its struggling . The 12v line had a fairly low rating (16-18a IIRC) which runs the CPU . > I do have a internal modem, but I dont think its > based on Rockwell chipset . Never had problems with UT > or CS . . . though . If you are happy having a poke around inside, removing all non essential cards would be a good way to isolate the problem, and reduce load on the PSU . But if it crashes in memtest86, then its probably not graphics/modem related . You could also change to more conservative settings in the BIOS if you have been tweaking . > Oh yeah, if I want to buy a new battery for the m/b, > is there a specfic one that I need to buy (eg batt > that only made for comp m/bs)? or just anyone that > has the same code or type? CR2032, also used in watches etc . |

2003-11-17 01:19:00 | It takes a couple of hours??? Wow, I know it does a few tests but couple of HOURS >< . Hmm, I got ripped off, $140 was just the PSU . . . >_< arrrrg U_U! . I'll leave the computer over night running memtest386 . . . hmm I'm sure the last time when I ran it on a 512SD ram it didn't take that long . . . hmm, oh well, we'll see ^^ . Thanks Jase Sen
