192976 2003-11-18 20:53:00 Mum and Dad (both just over 80) over the last year have mastered emailing and the WWW. I have snail mailed them a CDR on which there is a folder of images from a family party.
They have Windows XP and I have Windows 98 so not sure how XP does the following --- What I want to know is how to copy the folder of images from the CD to their My Pictures folder in very simple language.
I have sculked around DSE clicking onto their display computers and also found pages on the internet as how to manage the images once they are in My Pictures, so I can help them with that if they have problems.
Thanks Heather

You would do exactly the same in XP that you would do in Win98.
Insert the CD into the CD drive.
Open Explorer, click on the CD drive, and highlight the images (click with the mouse on the first image, and then Shift+click the last image), press Ctrl+C to copy the images. Then navigate to the My Pictures folder, highlight it, and press Ctrl + V to paste them in.

Hope that helps.

192978 2003-11-18 22:06:00 Hi Lynn
Thanks for that, I wondered if WindowsXP may have a right click to Send To.... My Pictures.
Will it work to get them to highlight the folder on the CD and then click Copy under Edit then open My Pictures and then click Paste under Edit and have the complete folder in My Pictures? (They are not confident in Ctrl + C etc, they worry they have not held down the keys properly etc, if they do it through the edit menu they feel a lot better). Thanks again Heather

I don't think they will have the Send to My Pictures option.

However, yes they can do it the way you described. That should be straightforward for them. I had not realised you had placed the images in a folder. So copying the folder will be simpler.

192980 2003-11-18 22:18:00 XP has a feature that whenever media is detected on a CD it will open a box for you with default and other options for what you'd like to do with the media. image files are normally auto-detected, and it should be simply a case of clicking OK when the option box pops up.

This function is enabled by default (I have it disabled) - so unless they've changed something, it really should be straightforward.

192981 2003-11-19 07:20:00 Heather J... I wonder if there is a "knowledgable" PF1-er living near your parents who could pop in & help out. Got to be worth a cup of tea & piece of cake??? PJ :D Poppa John (284)
192982 2003-11-19 07:27:00 Heather... There will be a SeniorNet club somewhere nearby. Our small town has 180 members, many of whom are in their eighties. Even if the folks do not wish to join, I'm sure that one of the tutors - all free of charge - would be happy to get involved. We advertise in the local throw-away rag and at the local Tourist Information office. Scouse (83)
192983 2003-11-19 08:55:00 I think the best way to save pics to a folder for them is to ...open the cd and once the cd folder with all the pic's is open ..just go to edit /select all..
then put pointer over the blue highlighted files and right click files (or a highlighted file) and go copy... then shut folder and open the folder u want to save them to and right click and go paste... cheers, hope u can follow that

192985 2003-11-20 01:11:00 Incidentally, I have always wondered where stuff goes when I cut?
Doesn't always work for me either.
Are there applications which you cannot paste into?
eg website based forms?

Cheers
