192986 2003-11-20 02:25:00 I have tried subsequently to cut and paste a pic,without success I might add,is this not possible? Thomas (1820)
192987 2003-11-20 02:40:00 You can only past into applications that accept it.

You have to have read-write access, and the application needs to be able to accept an input of that type.

Word for instance usually accepts pasted data. As does Excel. Providing the data is in a suitable format.

Internet Explorer (as in viewing a webpage) won't accept pasted data, as there is no ability to edit or add to a web page, as an example.

Neither can you just paste text into most graphics editor packages, as it does not handle that data type. Pictures are OK though.

Basically it needs to be an application that will accept data as an input, and it must also be able to accept the data type (as in .gif, .jpg etc)

So, Thomas what were you trying to paste a picture from and into?

192989 2003-11-20 02:56:00 I would normally send as an attachment, but am trying to find out what the possibilities are. Thomas (1820)

If you are trying to copy and paste a .jpg graphic directly from Windows Explorer into an email that will not work. You need to choose the "Insert" option within the message to embed a graphic and Rich Text formatting needs to be enabled. This option is the alternative to attaching graphics.

It goes to the Clipboard, a temporary "holding place" within Windows. It is advisable to be careful when cutting items, whether files or data, because if a second item is cut before the first item is pasted then that first item will be removed from the Clipboard and permanently lost. In later versions of Office the Clipboard can hold more than one item but most other progams and Windows Explorer cannot, as far as I know.

192992 2003-11-20 03:54:00 Tried that Tommy lad and worked well.
Once had an app that stored all on a special clipboard, but lost at last clean up.

192993 2003-11-20 06:51:00 Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. Yes, Dad is a member of Senior net. He goes to the classes then comes home and fills Mum (who is slightly deaf) in what he learnt. Its things like - the icons on the Outlook have suddenly disappeared can throw them, easily fixed by with me giving instructions over the phone. These sorts of things that pop up unexpectedly that classes do not cover. Hopefully the transfer from the CD to the My Pictures goes well. Heather J (815)
192994 2003-11-20 06:53:00 One utility that will store extra items on the clipboard is Yankee Clipper. I no longer use this program but it appears to be still available. Try this site (www.techtv.com) or this site (yippee.i4free.co.nz). I think they are the same thing but a search with Google brings up other versions as well. tommy (2826)
