193230 2003-11-20 06:17:00 Heya all,

I have just bought and attempted to install a Geforce FX 5200. When I install it and turn the computer on it starts okay but just before it finishes loading windows I get a Windows Protection Error.

I have :-

AMD 2000
512MB RAM
Gigabyte 7VRXP
Windows 98 SE

I have tried searching the web but no success at this stage. Would anyone have any suggestion/ideas.

193231 2003-11-20 06:33:00 Did you uninstall your previous video card's drivers?

Try uninstalling the Via 4in1 drivers and any previous video card drivers (you may need to do this in safe mode). Once done, reboot and let windows setup the standard pci graphics driver.

Reboot again, then install the Via 4in1 drivers. Reboot again and then install the video card drivers.

This should sort out the problem.

193232 2003-11-20 08:17:00 It seems that the problem is been caused by an IRQ conflict between the 5200 amd my sb live 5 . 1 .

But still trying to sort it out

193233 2003-11-20 09:10:00 Have sorta sorted it out but not really. The problem appears to be that the 5200 needs to use IRQ 11, which the sb live wants to use as well. For some reason the 5200 does not like sharing the IRQ.

WIll talk to some tech ppl tomorrow.

Would still be interested if anyone else has any ideas.

193234 2003-11-20 11:13:00 Try moving the SB to a different PCI slot, it should change the IRQ. bmason (508)
