193226 2003-11-20 04:55:00 Hi. I just bought a new computer, installed xp and went to partition my hard drive with partition magic pro 7.0. All went well and i could seperate my hard drive of 40gb into two. The problem in however one drive is recognized as C: and the other is E:. this is because my DVDROM is the D: drive. The assigning a new drive letter works with partition magic in that is allows me to change E: to any letter apart from D: I cant seem to be able to re letter my DVD to another letter thus letting me make E: to D:

Does anyone know how i can change the drive letter of my DVDROM?

I know this sounds all muddled but any help would be great!

193227 2003-11-20 05:22:00 You need to start the Computer Management console in Administrative tools. There you select storage, Disk Management. Select the drive you want to change and right click and select the Change Drive Letter and Paths.

You may have to rename D to F, Then E to D which should get your drives back in line and then rename F to E.

193228 2003-11-26 17:56:00 really the problem is simple you probably have thd dvd drive as a master on the second ide channel and thus it's seen as 'd' drive by the system.....if you change it to a slave on ide1 then you may have some better luck drcspy (146)

dosn't make any difference what so ever .

with XP you can easly change the drive letters around to suit, xp is a lot kinder when you ad drives ie the new drive/partion simply gets the next advaiable letter so it dosn't stuff up the existing arrangement . with win9x hardrives always get allocated first then cd drives . isn't there an FAQ on this ??
