| 193196 | 2003-11-19 23:41:00 | I occasionally use SimplySuperSoftware's Trojan Remover, particularly if I sense anything untoward happening on my machine. Using it infrequently, I often forget to update its signature file for a good few weeks. Having occasion to call on it again this morning in trying to diagnose my "PGPdisk not unmounting" problem (earlier post), I go to update the signatures. The update file downloads from SSSoftware's site, but when it gets right to the end, an error message pops up saying the file is corrupt (fails a CRC check or something similar; sorry, I don't have the exact text to hand) and cannot be installed. Is this a problem of updating too infrequently, or something else? Can it be fixed. Naturally, I've lost the user key that would allow me to uninstall and reinstall the whole program! Any answers? Thanks Argus |

| 193197 | 2003-11-20 02:21:00 | The file failing a CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Code) check simply means that the file has not been downloaded properly, some of the info has been lost or "scrambled" in the process. Not uncommon, a bit of noise on the line or similar, it just means it needs to be downloaded again. Repeated errors of the same type would suggest that the file is actually corrupt on the server, where you are downloading it from. Not much you can do about that. It just "happens", for reasons of bad sectors on a disk etc. |

Or go to the site itself and d/l it. Also, If you are still using any version under 6.1.0 the database updates are not compatible with previous versions under 6.1.0. You'll need to get 6.1.0 + of Trojan Remover, for it to work. The one you selected maybe down/getting fixed. The same thing happens to me sometimes. What version were you using / have you got? If you have lost your key (if you registered it), send an email to SSS throught Help/about in Trojan Remover. |
