| 193046 | 2003-11-19 04:29:00 | I have a network with 3 pc and a laptop connected with a router 4 port switch. The thing is i want to make my laptop wireless, can i add a wireless card to one of the pc's and run the laoptop off that and keep the hole network a live and working. its so i don't have to pay for an AP. the laptop is connected by a 30m cable and can only run at 10mb/Half Duplex,Will the wireless run over 30-40m ok? |

| 193047 | 2003-11-19 04:44:00 | Without an Air Point, 30 - 40 m using 2 wireless cards as an "ad-hoc" network link may be a bit far. I get that range only just using an Air Point, so it depends what's in between. If there are internal walls its probably a bit far, if its clear sight possibly OK. It will depend on the cards probably, they may differ. You will not know until you try it. The cost of a second card plus a PCI adapter to use it in a PC, then the need to have that PC act as a network bridge .. Are you sure thats cheaper than an Air Point that plugs into the switch? |
