| 193018 | 2003-11-18 23:06:00 | My hard drive has developed a worrying whisper. If it were a vinyl lp, I'd say that the needle had a small piece of dust on it. It wasn't there yesterday. It doesn't sound like a fan problem; it's just a gentle, background scriff. Is it time to panic yet? Any ideas, anyone? | arfitty (2716) | ||

Therefore from your description its not a mechanical problem in all probability, but more likely one of "something" causing a regular access. If it was related to the drive motor it would probably be high pitched given the rotation speed. Does to HDD activity light blink at the same rate? that would give a pointer to the problem. |
