193135 2003-11-19 08:58:00 What type of connection to the net do you have - 56kbps modem, ADSL (jetstream), ..... ? JohnD (509)
193136 2003-11-19 09:15:00 I also used to get this when I had an internel "Win modem" but it never occurs now with an external modem. tommy (2826)
193137 2003-11-19 12:16:00 Your ISP may have an idle disconnect in place and disconnects your connection.

There is an idle disconnect setting in IE which may be set to 30 mins

If it only happens when you are not downloading anything then I would suspect one of the above.

193138 2003-11-19 17:31:00 I have a 56k modem disconnect is set for not to disconnect kirrie kiwi (279)
193139 2003-11-19 18:44:00 How did you set your modem to not disconnect. Jim B (153)
193140 2003-11-20 02:10:00 Jim I launched IE went to Tools Internet Options Connections Settings

Advanced and unticked disconnect if idle for (amount of minutes) also

Unticked disconnect when connection may no longer required.

193141 2003-11-20 03:13:00 Thats good but that setting will only be activated if IE is idle .
There is another Idle timeout which controls the modem.

Go to Control panel/network connections
Right click your ISP icon and select properties.
Click on Options Tab
Idle time before hanging up xx mins

Are you sure it is not an ISP activated timeout. Most ISP's do have this in place.

193142 2003-11-21 20:36:00 Jim B have just checked that thanks but it was set to not hang up.

Shall check with my isp`s thanks again. kk

193143 2003-11-21 21:04:00 If your modem is still connected then it sounds like a phone line modem issue as a result of poor quality phone lines.
Where in NZ are you.
You might benefit from slowing your modem with extra settings.
