193757 2003-11-21 23:58:00 ?:| No idea. I called Orcon but there's no official word. I emailed the owner (seeby at orcon.net.nz) and now waiting to see if I get a response. Greg S (201)
193758 2003-11-22 00:57:00 I got the same "Unknown address" message, but I'm slightly confused... Cyberchuck told me Orcon sold it (or passed it) to someone else.

And there was that article in the Herald not too far back comenting on p2p.net.nz, and the chairman of RIANZ said something along the lines of "they'll be getting a legal surprise soon".

193759 2003-11-22 01:01:00 Yeah, wouldn't surprise me. Shame though, coz I was hoping he'd be able to make a stand against those prix Greg S (201)

There's still other NZ-Only ones quoted in that Herald Article...

What other things have Orcon had to shut down when requested to by authorities?

In an ironic twist, the association and Phonographic Performances, which collects royalties for artists, are former customers of Orcon. O'Neill-Joyce said his group changed internet providers when it learned of Orcon's involvement with the file-sharing community.

"With all their knowledge of how the industry works, the number of times we've asked them to take things down as an internet provider, it was very disappointing."

That's what had me thinking............

193765 2003-11-22 20:26:00 Ah yes.

What gets me is the part that says "changed internet providers when it learned of Orcon's involvement with the file-sharing community".

Other recording industry groups have recognised that file-sharing is not at fault, but the users of file-sharing communities. What it looks like to me is that RIANZ is taking a stubborn "no, it's because of the file-sharing networks" approach.
